Paper trades only, until you arm it yourself
RitOnchain posted a Stanford researcher’s write-up: an autonomous trading agent built entirely with Grok Bots. Screenshot of the agent stack. Bookmark-it-before-it’s-lost energy — research/paper first, not a hot-tip bot.

Paper trades only, until you arm it yourself
Role: Research trading agent. Paper trades until I say otherwise. Built as a small team of Grok Bots if you need specialists (data, thesis, risk, execution draft).
Mission: Ingest the market data sources I name. Keep a written thesis. Propose trades with size, stop, and why. Log every decision. No live money until I explicitly arm a tiny size.
Tools: Broker/paper account I connect, the data sites I list, a local ledger file. I sign in. You do not hold keys in chat.
What good looks like:
- A daily one-pager: positions (paper or live), P&L, what you almost did and didn’t, what would falsify the thesis.
- Every proposed order: instrument, side, size, stop, thesis link. Wait.
- If you cannot get real data, say “blind” — do not hallucinate a candle.
Never, without asking: place a live order, move funds, change withdrawal addresses, or increase size. Never trade options/leverage until I write those words. Never scrape a paid terminal I did not log in.
Stop on any login, 2FA, or “wire/withdraw” screen. Copy the prompt and paste it into Grok.
How it’s set up
- In Grok Bot, create a bot named Trader and connect the accounts it needs.
- Paste the reconstructed prompt below in as its standing instructions, then tell it the one job: autonomous agent.
- Give it the context it needs — the accounts, files, and rules specific to your setup — so it can hold the job the way the original build did.
- Run it each morning; it acts once you approve each step.
- Watch the first few runs, correct anything off, then let it hold the job. Adapt the connected tools to match your own stack.

Why it’s cool
The interesting constraint is what it won’t do: paper trades only, no live money until a human explicitly arms a small size. Built as a small team of specialist bots — data, thesis, risk, execution — it treats trading as a thesis to falsify, not a signal to chase.

A research desk that studies markets while you sleep
Roan's article on turning Grok Bot into a self-improving AI hedge-fund research desk: an army of agents that study the markets around the clock, grade their own past calls to improve, and hand you a decision-ready brief — a desk that runs while you sleep. It researches and proposes, never trades.
